  • Thank you to all our NSP-Techs for the fine work you've been doing in the schools.
  • As the UofC autumn quarter and the calendar year 2012 both approach their conclusions, please give some thought to how long you will be able to or want to continue working your regular schedule. When you know what days you will need off for exams or papers, or what might be your last day of the quarter, please share with both your CUIP contact and your in-school contact. (And with the transportation crew at NSP if you use their service!)
  • CALENDARS -- If you provided us your @gmail.com or other Google-based address,we should have shared wIth you three Google calendars. It is not required that you consult these calendars, but you are welcome to if you wish.
    1. "CUIP NSP" owned by cuip.nsps@gmail.com. Shared to you with Edit Events rights. This one contains some notable CPS or UChicago dates, but mostly YOUR schedules as we understand them. If what we have is wrong, please either edit or just email us a correction.
    2. "CUIP CPS" owned by cuip.cps@gmail.com. Shared to you with See All Details of Events rights. This contains just the notable CPS or UChicago dates.
    3. "CUIP Uchicago" owned by cuip.uchicago@gmail.com. This is a public calendar, so not explicitly shared with you individually. To add to your calendars, though, you may need to lookup by owner or title. (In Google Calendar list of calendars on the left margin, go down to "Other calendars" then select "Add a friend's calenda

  • Thank you to all our NSP-Techs for the fine work you've been doing in the schools.
  • In general, the best route for help from CUIP when you have a question on the job would be by email to the alias "help@cuip.uchicago.edu". This is just our core in-the-schools staff of five, so you will not be broadcasting to a large group of strangers, but the modest expansion in place of direct email to your one or two most usual contacts will enable others to try to address your question if those usual contacts are not available that day.
  • Please note who your school-based primary contact is (teacher, techco, assistant principal...), and do try to include them in your absence email if you unexpectedly need to miss a scheduled day at the school. Also please discuss in advance with them in person as you start to know when you will have to absent yourself for exams and papers towards the end of the quarter, and please also keep your CUIP staff contact informed.

  • Welcome to the new members of the CUIP-NSP Tech Team!
  • This approximately-weekly announcements and reminder note is typically the main or only content of the low-traffic mailing list NSP@CUIP.UChicago.edu. (But in fact we would be happy to see it turn into a multi-participant discussions list, so long as we could still bill it as pretty-low-traffic.)
  • These emailed reminder-and-alerts-notes were originally reminders of our standing request to you to keep us updated on your school activity via posting to our Reporting Blog. It also contained detailed instructions for doing so; plus alerts to important upcoming dates (such as CPS school-closure days); plus general messages (like this item) pulled into a single email to help keep to our promise of the mailing list being low-traffic; plus accumulated lists of items archived from previous weeks.
  • As a result these emails became very long and shaggy, and the cure seemed to be to move standard repeated week-to-week content, as well as accumulating archives, out to the web. The section just below, called "Links", will point you to those items on the web, including the detailed instructions for the CUIP Reporting Blog.
  • "Track R" is the term CPS has introduced for "regular track", meaning the main set of schools not on a special calendar track such as Track E.
    Please be aware of whether your school is Track R or Track E
    • Track E schools == {Dulles, Fiske, Fuller, Mollison, Till, Woodson}
    • Track R schools == the rest

  • Thank you for an excellent year!
  • When you know your last day of work (or what shifts you will need to reschedule), please inform your main contact at your school, as well as your CUIP person (or use our general help@cuip.net alias).
  • The extra work in school libraries willbe going ahead!
    • If you responded to our previous general inquiry, we will later today or early on Friday email you details. Sign-up for specific days will be via Google Calendar "appointment slots" feature.
    • If you did not respond earlier, you can still get in on this. Write to Mitch or help@cuip.net to inquire.
    • See that email, or the Dates page on this Tech Wiki, for the schedule overview.

  • Preliminary info about summerwork
    • CUIP is not sure whether we will be able to employ students during the summer
    • The NSP office will manage any CUIP summer employment for students, and will have opportunities of their own, so you should keep in touch with them if you are interested.
    • Summer work via NSP is tied to work/study. They say summer w/s is easier to qualify for than during the main school year, so you should look into this even if you are not on w/s now.
  • In case you have not done so for spring, you must check in with the NSP Office before returning to work at your school. Part of this check-in is registering your schedule with NSP; PLEASE ALSO SEND YOUR WORK SCHEDULE TO CUIP.(Even if it does not differ from last quarter._)
    • If you would like to manage your own entries on our Google Calendar, please ask mitch@uchicago.edu
  • There are still some days coming up in the tail-end of the school year when there is no school at CPS. Please have a look at the listing in your reporting-reminder email message, and on the linked wikispaces page,and in Brandi's email update documents.
    • And please distinguish full holidays (when the school is really closed) from Professional Development and administrative days (when CPS students do not go to school but the teachers will be there,and you may be able to go in for tech work if arranged in advance).
    • Also note, on Parent-Teacher Conference days the school hours are shifted. Typically teachers will be there from noon to 6:00 PM. So check on the hours as well as whether you can come in at all for tech work. Please respect parent-teacher privacy if working on classroom technology.
  • (New 12/01/11) The CUIP office has moved. It was nicely uneventful!
  • New Aut 2011: This weekly message will be sent on Thursdays, instead of Fridays
  • New Aut 2011: We have a new site for the Reporting Blog. It is now at http://reporting.cuip3.org/ . (The old URL of Reporting.cuip.net should also redirect you to the new one almost seamlessly).Thanks go to Katie Schilling for implementing the new site!
    • The Apache (external) privacy sign-in remains what it was previously, and is sent in that weekly email reminder.
    • Your individual (WordPress-internal) sign-in identities did transfer okay, but it appears the passwords did not. So please try a sign-in and, if you need to, do a password-reminder/password-change operation. (Or create a new sign-in identity; but please make it relate to the name we know you by.)
